Touch of Frost by Jennifer Estep (Mythos Academy #1)

My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy — a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody’s head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest.

But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I’m determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why especially since I should have been the one who died. . . From Goodreads.

I love the whole mythology concept but with a twist. This time Jennifer changed it up to where the gods were not allowed to fight amongst each other but their Champions were able to do that for them. Gwen just happens to be the only normal person at Mythos Academy, which is saying a lot since she has psychometry (she can touch anything and see everything that has happened to the item when someone else touched it).

When Gwen witnesses a murder of one of the most popular girls at the school, she decides that since no one else seemed to care about her death she was going to investigate it. Especially since she thought that it wasn’t fair that she keeps getting allowed to live when someone else is taken away. While investigating, she makes her first friend. Which is weird because Daphne, used to be Jasmine’s friend but for some reason they grow on each other and you can see how much they care about each other in the end of the book.

She also gets a protector of sorts in Logan Quinn, and who wouldn’t want that? Seriously. She wants to be with him but she is worried about what she will see if she touches him. Not that she thinks he is some serial killer but when the last guy you kiss is thinking about someone else as they kiss you, who wouldn’t be hesitant? But he takes it the wrong way of course and thinks it is because he is a Spartan and below her, which is stupid since she is the only Gypsy there.

Now I have to say that if you have a sweet tooth you are going to want to start baking as soon as you start reading because her grandma makes some awesome sounding baked goods. It actually sounded so good; I looked up how to make it myself and figured that I will be getting to it very soon.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

“Tense silence followed, and then Daemon’s light faded and he settled back into his human form. He glanced down to where my hand curved around his wrist, and then his gaze flicked up meeting mine. Charged air passed from his skin to mine, shocking me with a crack. I let go of his wrist and stilled under his intense stare.” page 131

Out of the Dark by Quinn Loftis (The Grey Wolves #4)

Darkness has descended on the Transylvanian Alps.
Four packs of the powerful Grey wolves – in a rare show of cooperation – had joined together here in an effort to help their pack members find true mates. Then they were betrayed by one of their own – an Alpha hell-bent on becoming the most powerful of the Canis lupis. And though the wolf’s assassination attempt on the currently-reigning Romanian Alpha failed, his plans to get Decebel, the Romanian Beta, out of the picture were coming together even as his treachery was discovered. The wolf fled, leaving destruction, death, and a missing mate behind him.

Unbeknownst to the other packs, the wolf has employed a witch to finish the deadly job and help him gain another tool to increase his power. A curse of devastating proportions will cripple Decebel in a way that may dissolve his fragile bond with Jennifer. Meanwhile, injured and alone, Jen has been fighting for her life. She had come to terms with her fate, accepting that she would not share a life with Decebel, until help came in the most unexpected form…

Vasile will have to use all his resources – including Sally, the new gypsy healer of the Romanian pack – to discover a way in which to destroy the witch, lift the curse from Decebel and reunite him with the one woman who makes him whole, and solve a mystery that’s been surrounding the Romanian pack for 300 years. From Goodreads.

Oh geez. It is just getting crazier. Sally is a Gypsy healer, Jen and Dec are still separated but it is worse than ever since he was cursed to forget all about her, the curse was originally for Fane and Jacque, the mansion that everyone was staying at burnt to the ground because of a witch. It was crazy, luckily for Jen she was found by Grey Wolves that were hiding for that witch because the girl is a Gypsy healer and also a wolf.

Throughout the story I really, really wanted to cry for Jen and Dec. They went through so much and it just got worse and worse. Eventually they bonded and married. But tragedy struck again but luckily the Fey stepped in and saved the day. Literallly.

I don’t want to give too much away because the story is great from book one all the way through. But this time Sally and Costin are learning how to get along since there is a pull to each other but they don’t understand how because she doesn’t have any wolf blood in her. Just the Gypsy blood which is explained eventually by Jen and Jacque to her and Dec and Vasile explain it to Costin.

The battle was pretty epic but obviously it isn’t over since the reason why it happened at all was the witch and she managed to get away. I am hoping there is another book, I am sure there is but there isn’t any info out yet about it. I know I don’t give much away but I really like this story, she took another step with the werewolf legend and changed it up enough that made it completely different then most stories out there. I do recommend reading this series if for no other reason than the hot guys in it.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Just One Drop by Quinn Loftis (The Grey Wolves #3)

Jennifer Adams, best friend to Jacque Pierce and Sally Morgan, spicy, out spoken, a little crazy and human…or so she thought. Jen has just found out that human DNA is not the only thing that resides in her veins, she happens to share that little pesky werewolf gene, although it isn’t more than just a drop. Now that she and her friends are living in Romania with Fane’s pack, she is also oh so conveniently stuck with the object of her affection, the fur ball Decebel.

Drawn to each other by something they don’t understand Jen finds herself frustrated by the lack of mating signs between her and said fur ball. Not only is she dealing with that not so un-frustrating problem, she now has been informed that because of that little drop of werewolf blood in her she is now required to attended a multi-pack gathering for un-mated wolves. This type of gathering hasn’t taken place in over a century but with a shortage of females among the werewolf population the males are getting worried they won’t ever find their true mates.

Meanwhile Decebel struggles with the emotions he is feeling towards Jen. He tries to keep his distance but there is just something about the mouthy blonde that keeps him coming back for more of her verbal abuse that he just can’t seem to get enough of…go figure. From Goodreads.

This series just gets better with every book. Now that Fane and Jacque are bonded and married they are safe. Or at least it seems that way. This book is about Jen though and Dec. This time the problem is that all unmated weres and anyone who has any just a drop of Grey Wolf blood has to attend a giant type of speed dating. The Alpha’s are hoping that by doing this that the unmated will find their true mate. This is noble and all that but for the people that barely have any Grey Wolf blood in their system it is harder for it to show that they are true mates.

This time around though, the reasoning for the bad guy is that he is jealous that Fane found his true mate and Fane is only 18 years old and he has been around a lot longer and needs his true mate now not later. Men, they only want what they can’t have of course.

In this one Dec and Jen are drawn to each other but they don’t have any signs of being mates so technically he can’t freak out on every guy that talks to her or touches her. Of course that doesn’t help anything because he does it anyways. They have one of those love/hate relationships except that they really do love each other but can’t talk or do anything about it unless the signs start showing. Eventually something happens and they are separated because he threatens everyone over a video of her and 2 other unmated girls from their pack.

While they are separated, Valise and his wife are poisoned. So Jen, Sally and Marianna go out looking for a plant that will stop the poison. While they are out looking Marianna knocked Jen into a drop in the mountain where she was dying, but by putting her life in jeopardy Jen and Dec now are showing signs of being true mates. Seems ironic since they have only wanted to be together and now they can’t because she is dying alone.

This book was like a roller coaster ride of ups and downs with my emotions. I think this may have been my favorite book of the series so far.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Blood Rites by Quinn Loftis

Blood Rites by Quinn Loftis (The Grey Wolves #2)

With the challenge complete and the corrupt Alpha of Coldspring defeated Fane is now free to complete the mate bond with Jacque and perform the Blood Rites. Although the challenge is done, the affects are far reaching. Once it is known that Vasile, one of the strongest Alphas in the world is in America, specifically Coldspring, TX, there is one Alpha who cannot over look the significance of this. An Alpha who happens to share Jacque’s DNA, but is this the one she needs to fear?

With her mom driving and her two best friends, Jen and Sally in tow, Jacque sets off for her happily ever after. She will soon realize a plan has been put in motion that will change her course and possibly tear her from Fane’s grasp forever. It will take a wolf pack, her mother’s love, her two best friend’s unrelenting determination, her own will to survive and the undying love of her mate to bring her home. The question remains, if she fights, if she endures, who will she be, what will be left once she is back in her mates arms. From Goodreads.

Wow, this one was definitely crazy. Even with Jacque’s new identity as half werewolf, I didn’t think her father would come into the picture. Little does he know that his second in command is a big fat liar, but who would suspect that person?

Now that Jacque has been giving the okay to bond with Fane, the day they plan on doing it there is a horrible car accident and her and her best friend Jen end up really, really hurt. But what Jen did to make sure she got out of the car was amazing. That is true friendship and you can tell that either one of the other girls would do that for her as well. While they are healing in the hospital, Jacque’s dad decides to pay a visit because he doesn’t think Fane can protect her. Which is completely ridiculous since who would be able to protect anyone in a car accident? But you know dad’s they aren’t the most reasonable when one of their children are hurt.

Everything seems to be getting better when all of a sudden Jacque gets really sick because of the human blood that was put in her body because she lost so much of it in the accident. As she is taken to the ICU, she is unconscious and she is wheeled out by her dad’s second in command unbeknownst to him and everyone else that is there. He wants Jacque to his mate since he is slowly going mad because he doesn’t have the light to separate his darkness in him that all male werewolves have.

So he takes her and the doctor to a secluded cabin. In doing so, Jacque is dying but he doesn’t know that. He thinks that when they bond that everything will be okay but it won’t be. He was so cruel to her, and she was so sad because she thought Fane wasn’t going to love her anymore because he made her take his blood. It wasn’t anywhere near as sweet and intimate as it was supposed to be.

Luckily everyone showed up and saved the day, her dad, Fane’s dad, Dec, Vasile (Fane’s dad) second in command, Fane and even the doctor helped get Jacque out of that horrible situation. I almost wanted to cry for her especially when she was pushing Fane away because she was beaten down by him. He almost broke her spirit and everyone was so worried about that.

In the end, they left the United States because it seemed that all that was left there for Jacque, Jen and Sally was heartbreak, worry and pain.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Prince of Wolves by Quinn Loftis

Jaque Pierce was just an ordinary 17 year old girl getting ready to start her senior year in high school in Coldspring, Texas. When a mysterious foreign exchange student from Romania moves in across the street, Jacque and her two best friends, Sally and Jen, don’t realize the last two weeks of their summer was going to get a lot more interesting. From the moment Jacque sets eyes on Fane she feels an instant connection, a pull like a moth to a flame. Little does she know that the flame she is drawn to is actually a Canis lupis, werewolf, and she just happens to be his mate; the other half of his soul. The problem is Fane is not the only wolf in Coldspring, Texas. Just as Fane and Jacque are getting to know each other, another wolf steps out to try and claim Jacque as his mate. Fane will now have to fight for the right to complete the mating bond, something that is his right by birth but is being denied him by a crazed Alpha. Will the love Fane has for Jacque be enough to give him the strength to defeat his enemy, will Jacque accept that she is Fane’s mate and complete the bond between them? From Goodreads.

Wow this book wasn’t very long but I was okay with that, it was crazy from beginning to the end of it. What a small town to be invaded like that but it seemed like a good thing in the end. All the craziness went with them when they left to head for Romania of course after the bonding ceremony with Jaque and Fane.

I am not a fan of the insta-love, I never really have been. I mean sure appreciate the hotness of the guy. Who wouldn’t? Even though there was that instant bond between Jacque and Fane, she still tried really hard not to succumb to it. Of course that didn’t work out so well since another guy with the crazy concept that Jacque was his mate. Yea werewolves are super possessive.

The good thing about the relationships throughout the whole book was with her friends. No matter how weird things got and she told them everything, they still stood by her and supported her instead of thinking she was insane, which most would have done. The downside was the whole fact that her mom lied to her about herself for 17 years. She could have told her the truth many times but was afraid to do so because of the repercussions that it would cause.

Since it is the first of the series I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Daemon Invasion!!!

Published June 15, 2012 by crysbookreviews

Yesterday Jennifer L. Armentrout came to West Palm Beach and I had an absolutely amazing time. There were only about 10 of us if you didn’t include the family and my hubby as extras. If so there were about 17 people there. I loved that it was so personal and Sztella and Pepe were adorable. Especially when they started talking to each other in Hungarian! I can see why Jennifer was creeping on them in the van since she was sitting behind them. I would have done the same thing, mainly because they are just so adorable. I took quite a few pictures of the whole thing, the bad thing is that I forgot that I had my actual camera with me the whole time and used my iPhone for most of the pictures. I hope you enjoy the pictures of what went down, it was a lot of fun.

Waiting on Wednesday!

Wicked Jealous: A Love Story by Robin Palmer

Simone never saw herself as the “cute girl”—she was always the chunky, band tee wearing, France-obsessed smart girl. But now that Simone’s a few pounds lighter and sporting a new retro style, things have gotten, well, weird. Her crush Jason seems to actually know she exists. And when Simone’s soon-to-be stepmonster Hillary stops ignoring her, Simone knows something is up. When Simone’s brother offers to let her move in with him and his six roommates on the beach for the summer, Simone jumps at the chance. But living with seven very different college boys isn’t exactly helping her land her very own happily ever after. From Goodreads.

Why I am waiting for it?

Another take on a fairy tale? Especially the Snow White one, who wouldn’t want to read this. I am hoping it is really good too. It comes out July 19, so I am excited to find out how this differs from the original version.
