The year is 1876, and there’s something strange and deadly loose in Philadelphia…
Eleanor Fitt has a lot to worry about. Her brother has gone missing, her family has fallen on hard times, and her mother is determined to marry her off to any rich young man who walks by. But this is nothing compared to what she’s just read in the newspaper—
The Dead are rising in Philadelphia.
And then, in a frightening attack, a zombie delivers a letter to Eleanor…from her brother.
Whoever is controlling the Dead army has taken her brother as well. If Eleanor is going to find him, she’ll have to venture into the lab of the notorious Spirit-Hunters, who protect the city from supernatural forces. But as Eleanor spends more time with the Spirit-Hunters, including their maddeningly stubborn yet handsome inventor, Daniel, the situation becomes dire. And now, not only is her reputation on the line, but her very life may hang in the balance.
This is also another book that I read a while ago and I really did enjoy it but I never fully got into it. I am hoping that the next one is much more fascinating for me. I loved the whole concept of zombies in the 1800s. And a female heroine is great, Eleanor had her moments that were relate-able. It was hard because I don’t actually know what life would have been like for a female teen in the mid 1800s in Philly.
Daniel had his moments where I wanted to punch him in the face but of course he is a love interest so he had his redeeming moments. His back story explained why he wasn’t always the greatest with expressing his feelings. The rest of the Spirit-Hunters were amazing, they were funny and nice to Eleanor.
I liked this book quite a bit and I can’t wait for the second book which has a lovely cover on it to come out in July. I am hoping there is more back story and Eleanor and Daniel have a chance to actually be together. Plus the twist at the end of the first book should help make this book amazing.
