How to Marry an Alien

Alex’s interstellar relationship has finally been sealed in the eyes of the human world, so now she can move on to her next step: college.

With Ace by her side and a new piece of jewelry on her finger, she thinks she is ready for anything. Well, almost anything.
Her new roommate holds a dangerous link to her past that Alex isn’t sure if she can handle. Then there is the whole alien fiancé thing. Every time she tries to get closer to Ace, he seems to pull further away. Top that off with a full summer class load and a few more alien attacks and it’s just another day for Alex.

Except this time she isn’t sure if marrying an alien will be the happy ending she’s hoping for. goodreads-badge-add-plus-1

I was waiting forever for this book to come out. There wasn’t a second that I didn’t love this book. I even asked Magan if there would HOPEFULLY be a 4th book on how Alex and Ace were after the wedding. There was somethings that I was not expecting to find out in the book and it made me sad when I heard that.

I love how Alex became friends with everyone, even people from the past that weren’t so nice to her. Of course there were some twists in their relationship and Alex was learning to be more herself and who she wants to be in this book then the other 2 which was great because every 18 year old goes through that.

Ace was as always a sweetheart, I loved how he was always there for Alex no matter what. I can honestly say that I loved his character. He had his moments of brooding but he was definitely one of the nicest male characters I have read in a really long time. Most of the time they are kind of jerks. Don’t get me wrong, I like them too but it was a nice change of pace.

I have read EVERY book by Magan so far and honestly I have loved every one of them. I hope for the 4th book but if that doesn’t happen, I am happy with how the story ended. Ace and Alex had a great love story that had it’s ups and downs like a normal relationship except the guy just so happened to be an alien from another planet, and not only that but royalty on that planet. I hope everyone reads these books and falls in love with the characters like I have.

A Midsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger

Published July 24, 2012 by crysbookreviews

A Midsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger

Whitley Johnson’s dream summer with her divorcé dad has turned into a nightmare. She’s just met his new fiancée and her kids. The fiancée’s son? Whitley’s one-night stand from graduation night. Just freakin’ great.

Worse, she totally doesn’t fit in with her dad’s perfect new country-club family. So Whitley acts out. She parties. Hard. So hard she doesn’t even notice the good things right under her nose: a sweet little future stepsister who is just about the only person she’s ever liked, a best friend (even though Whitley swears she doesn’t “do” friends), and a smoking-hot guy who isn’t her stepbrother…at least, not yet. It will take all three of them to help Whitley get through her anger and begin to put the pieces of her family together.

Filled with authenticity and raw emotion, Whitley is Kody Keplinger’s most compelling character to date: a cynical Holden Caulfield-esque girl you will wholly care about. From Goodreads.

Seeing as the book starts off from where Whitley is getting to know that she got wasted enough the night before that she slept with someone was interesting. It was like holy hell, I thought Whitley was very calm even though she could barely remember the whole night at the time.

I felt that the flaws in the characters in the book were really good. I like how Whitley has issues not with just one parent but with both because they honestly don’t notice how much pain she has been in since they divorced. I love how her brother really cares about her but it’s hard for him because of the distance and the fact that he has a baby and wife. I thought her mom needed a wakeup call because she wasn’t helping the situation at all.

I liked how she eventually realized that she was using it as a poor coping mechanism but of course it took something almost to happen to her soon to be stepsister. She had some eye opening moments throughout the summer before her first year of college, which she kinda needed. She was a hot mess before that summer and her dad was also a mess because he treated her like a little sister instead of as her dad. I couldn’t imagine my dad being that way but I know it happens though, especially to the dad’s that are dads way too early and finally taste what life outside of a family would be. This is exactly what happened to her dad in the book.

I loved how she finally got the family that she needed and her first friend since middle school. I felt that she grew throughout the book and I really liked that it was like ALL of a sudden either. It took mistakes and trust to get to where she was in the end.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. I can’t wait to read more of Kody’s books, she really is an amazing writer.

In Honor by Jessi Kirby

In Honor by Jessi Kirby

Hours after her brother’s military funeral, Honor opens the last letter Finn ever sent. In her grief, she interprets his note as a final request and spontaneously decides to go to California to fulfill it.

Honor gets as far as the driveway before running into Rusty, Finn’s best friend since third grade and his polar opposite. She hasn’t seen Rusty in ages, but it’s obvious he is as arrogant and stubborn as ever—not to mention drop-dead gorgeous. Despite Honor’s better judgment, the two set off together on a voyage from Texas to California. Along the way, they find small and sometimes surprising ways to ease their shared loss and honor Finn’s memory—but when shocking truths are revealed at the end of the road, will either of them be able to cope with the consequences? From Goodreads.

Holy cow, this book was sad and hot at the same time. If it had been my brother who died I would have done the same thing that Honor did. I was just one of the few that were lucky when my older brother actually came back alive from being in Afghanistan and Iraq.

But wow the chemistry between Rusty and Honor was amazing. I thought that might have been an issue with her brother but I don’t think it was ever addressed between the two best friends or ex best friends. He was mad at him for giving up college to go to the military, since they both were giving full scholarships for football. He did turn that down for a good reason but I still think he should have talked to his sister about why he was doing that. I know I would have been upset and hurt to find out that was the reason why my brother went into the military. Of course my brother was just following family tradition (my dad was Army and so was he) but still.

It was a really cute and sad story, I almost wish the end of the book was different but at the same time, it was more realistic then a lot of books I have read recently. No matter what you learn about yourself and love, you aren’t always just going to be together immediately. I wish there would be another book, maybe a few years in the future where Rusty and Honor meet back up but I don’t think that will happen.

I don’t want to give so much of the book away but it was worth the read even though I was kind of scared to read it, it was and is my worse fear for my older brother.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.

What a Boy Needs by Nyrae Dawn

What a Boy Needs by Nyrae Dawn (What A Boy Wants #2)

A companion novel to WHAT A BOY WANTS.

Jaden Sinclair knows he’ll never amount to anything…so why would he deserve a girl like Priscilla Mendoza?

Since last summer, things have been screwed up between Jaden and Pris. He knows it’s his fault, but that doesn’t stop him from wanting to go a few rounds with her new boyfriend. He also knows he’s the loser his dad calls him, but it doesn’t stop him from wanting her.

After getting a huge bomb dropped on him, Jaden lashes out and lands himself in jail. Everything in his chaotic life is turned upside down and to make it worse, his mom kicks him out in order to side with his dad. Yeah, he’s totally a prize for a girl like Pris.

Sebastian, Aspen, and Pris are all going places in their lives…and he knows he can’t keep tagging along for the ride.

The group has one last chance for The Epic Adventure they’ve been looking for: a road trip to New York, where Jaden’s friends will be going to college. Unfortunately, the more time Jaden hangs around Pris, the harder it is to keep the carefully constructed walls between them so she doesn’t find out what a train wreck he really is.

When the trip ends, Jaden has to decide if he’s ready to say goodbye to his friends, and the girl he loves. He knows what he needs, but will he be man enough to go for it?

Contains mature themes. Some sexual situations and language. From Goodreads.

I almost want there to be a third book about what happens after this book ended. Just because I loved these characters so much. Jaden, Pris, Aspen and Sebastian, were amazing friends to each other and more.

This book was about Jaden and his discovery of not only who he is but why he is worthy of being someone. There were so many moments that I loved Jaden for but there were other moments that I wanted to hit him harder than I wanted to hit Sebastian in the first book. I honestly thought about throwing my Nook Color across the room because how he thought of himself and how he refused to let anyone help him.

No matter what though they all loved him and wanted to make sure that he would be okay. They were not happy to find out that Jaden was disbanding their group and moving to Texas to stay with his uncle. I couldn’t believe he would do that to Sebastian but not only him but Pris. I wanted them to fall in love and stay together forever.

On the road trip that they talked him into going on still, he learned that he was a better person than he knew or was told his whole life. Before he left, he found out that the dad he always thought was his ended up not being his dad at all. When that happened something broke inside of him and he couldn’t understand why his mom would allow some stranger to talk to him so badly his whole life.

The book was amazing, I don’t want to give too much away but the characters themselves are worth reading the book. They remind me of my best friends, we would do anything for each other no matter what. There were secrets that were eventually told; Jaden let someone in on everything. It was a great book and I already kind of miss the characters.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

My Paper Heart by Magan Vernon

My Paper Heart by Magan Vernon

There are worse things in life than failing out of college- such as having your parents receive the letter that you’ve been kicked out.
Now to appease her parents self-proclaimed sorority princess Libby Gentry is packing up her Prada bag and heading to work for her great aunt’s antique store in tiny Elsbury, Louisiana. She’s pretty sure she can tackle the swamp and deal with her great aunt and tom boy of a little cousin, but what she doesn’t know is if she can handle the local town playboy, Blaine Crabtree.

As Libby’s feelings for Blaine grow, so does her need for acceptance and all of the insecurities she has kept inside are coming out. She may have survived the Louisiana swamp, but she may not survive Blaine’s reluctance to say the ‘L’ word. When Blaine finally commits to the three words Libby’s been waiting for, she only hopes they haven’t come too late.

**This book does contain some mild language and sexual content. It is meant for upper YA readers**  From Goodreads.

I honestly wasn’t sure where the story was going to go. The first page explained how she got kicked out and eventually I fell in love with the whole story. I think Magan did an amazing job writing it. All the characters were very lovable and hate-able at the same time.

Now Libby at first seemed like a total princess that got almost whatever she wanted. I was like sorority girl, great. But honestly she was way more than that. She was insecure about a lot of things and I was glad that she came into her own as a person. I understand that she was picked on and bullied while growing up but I am glad that she realized that she wasn’t that person anymore.

Blaine was amazing and a pain in the butt at the same time. He made some massive mistakes but when he was sweet to Libby, I could literally feel myself swooning over him. He was such a Southern gentleman it was great. He was always there for her in the end no matter what mistake he made before.

Her family was amazing, I would have liked to have gotten to know more about Britt but she is a 15 year old girl and it was summer break, I wasn’t surprised that she basically came and went in scenes. I really liked how even though she had her moments that I didn’t like, she was always willing to help Libby.

I almost wish there would be a second book so I can find out what happens next for Libby and Blaine and everyone else. I know it would be amazing but I think this book is a stand alone.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Waiting on Wednesday!!!

Published July 11, 2012 by crysbookreviews

Only sixteen when she started the series, Ally Adornetto knows how teen hearts beat, and this long-awaited conclusion is certain to be her most popular book yet.

Bethany, an angel sent to Earth, and her mortal boyfriend, Xavier, have been to Hell and back. But now their love will be put to its highest test yet, as they defy Heavenly law and marry. They don’t tell Beth’s archangel siblings, Gabriel and Ivy, but the angels know soon enough, and punishment comes in a terrifying form: the Sevens, who are rogue angels bent on keeping Beth and Xavier apart, destroying Gabriel and Ivy, and darkening angelic power in the heavens.

The only way Bethany and Xavier can elude the Sevens is to hide in the open, and blend in with other mortals their own age. Gabriel and Ivy set them up at college, where they can’t reveal their relationship, and where there is still danger around each corner. Will Bethany be called back to Heaven – forever – and face leaving the love of her life? From Goodreads.

Why I am waiting for it.

The first two books of this trilogy were very good and the covers for all 3 books are amazing. I love the star crossed lover stories, a lot. Probably more than I like any other love stories. At the ending of Hades, I really can’t wait to see how it all ends.
