Teaser Tuesday!

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by MizB over at Should Be Reading!

To participate all you have to do is:

•Grab your current read

•Open to a random page

•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

•BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!).

“I wasn’t about to complain. I had the best seat in the house. They played for a while and then I heard the doorbell. I whispered to Caleb that I’d get it and he muttered a response but was so into the game, I may as well have not been there. I laughed under my breath and grabbed the money he’d set aside on the table to give the delivery man. I opened the door and saw a guy, about seventeen, maybe eighteen.” page 16

Hemlock by Kathleen Peacock (Hemlock #1)

Mackenzie and Amy were best friends.

Since then, Mac’s life has been turned upside down. She is being haunted by Amy in her dreams, and an extremist group called the Trackers has come to Mac’s hometown of Hemlock to hunt down Amy’s killer:

A white werewolf.

Lupine syndrome–also known as the werewolf virus–is on the rise across the country. Many of the infected try to hide their symptoms, but bloodlust is not easy to control.

Wanting desperately to put an end to her nightmares, Mac decides to investigate Amy’s murder herself. She discovers secrets lurking in the shadows of Hemlock, secrets about Amy’s boy-friend, Jason, her good pal Kyle, and especially her late best friend. Mac is thrown into a maelstrom of violence and betrayal that puts her life at risk.

Kathleen Peacock’s thrilling novel is the first in the Hemlock trilogy, a spell-binding urban fantasy series filled with provocative questions about prejudice, trust, lies, and love. From Goodreads.

Wow! What a great story this was. I couldn’t put the book down while I was reading it. There was so many secrets and lies and love that was never mentioned between friends and from people that were just people that were known by Mac.

After Amy is murdered by a wolf a few months later, Mac decides it is time to put her foot down and find out about the white werewolf that attacked and killed her. Which what bff wouldn’t do that? I know I would search high and low to find out what happened to my bff. Since she is doing that she decides to help Jason, Amy’s ex boyfriend, into cleaning up his act. Since her death, Jason is a massive drunk now. But once again who wouldn’t be? Especially when you find out more about what happened that day.

I do have to mention that the bad guy was definitely not the person I thought it would be or wanted it to be. It got even worse when Mac finds out why he does what he does. Because his dad wanted a way into Senate where Amy’s grandfather is. Evil and diabolical is what that man is, even worse is that he made his son have the bloodlust.

I can’t wait for the second book in the trilogy. If it is anything like the first book, I am going to love it.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.
