Waiting on Wednesday

Published September 26, 2012 by crysbookreviews

For years, the human and vampire residents of Morganville, Texas, have managed to co-exist in peace. But now that the threat to the vampires has been defeated, the human residents are learning that the gravest danger they face is the enemy within…

Thanks to the eradication of the parasitic creatures known as the draug, the vampires of Morganville have been freed of their usual constraints. With the vampires indulging their every whim, the town’s human population is determined to hold on to their lives by taking up arms. But college student Claire Danvers isn’t about to take sides, considering she has ties to both the humans and the vampires.

To make matters worse, a television show comes to Morganville looking for ghosts, just as vampire and human politics collide. Now, Claire and her friends have to figure out how to keep the peace without ending up on the nightly news… or worse. From Goodreads.

Why I am waiting for it?

One because I LOOOOVVVVEEEE Claire and Shane. Two because I love Eva and Micheal. Three because I am 12 books invested into this series and each book is more shocking than the last one. And this is the third to last book in the series, which yes I will sad because I love the series so far. I can’t wait for this book to be released on November 6th, 2012.

Spark by Brigid Kemmerer (Elemental #2)

Spark by Brigid Kemmerer (Elemental #2)

Gabriel Merrick plays with fire. Literally.

Sometimes he can even control it. And sometimes he can’t. Like the fire that killed his parents.

Gabriel has always had his brothers to rely on, especially his twin, Nick. But when an arsonist starts wreaking havoc on their town, all the signs point to Gabriel. Only he’s not doing it.

More than Gabriel’s pride is at stake — this could cost him his family, maybe his life. And no one seems to hear him. Except a shy sophomore named Layne, a brainiac who dresses in turtlenecks and jeans and keeps him totally off balance. Layne understands family problems, and she understands secrets. She has a few of her own.

Gabriel can’t let her guess about his brothers, about his abilities, about the danger that’s right at his heels. But there are some risks he can’t help taking.

The fuse is lit… From Goodreads.

Now Brigid is a new author to the YA world and I have yet to read something from her that wasn’t amazing. I read Elemental (0.5), Storm (1), and Fearless (1.5) and I loved each one of them. But this one was just as great as the other ones were. I loved getting to know the dynamics of the family more so this time around.

Gabriel had such a bad temper but that makes sense due to the fact of his element that he can control. I mean fire makes me think of anger and passion too. He wasn’t just one of the bad boys, he really cared about his family and eventually he starts to care about more than just hooking up with girls. He ended up falling hard for Layne, which I loved because she needed someone to show that she is perfect just the way she is.

Now Layne has had such a rough life and so has Gabriel but that I believe was discussed in my review of Storm. Layne grew up rich, and from there she learned early on that she wasn’t good enough for her mom because of an accident that happened when she was very young. Once her mom left her, her dad, and her younger brother, she ended up taking all the responsibilities that should go to her for herself. She cleaned, she cooked, and she made sure her brother was taken care of. And she is only a sophomore in high school.

There isn’t much that I didn’t love about this book.  I can’t wait for the next books to come out, I see on Goodreads there will be a Nick Merrick novella, which I want now and then the final book in the series, Spirit. Every book has gotten better with Brigid. I was very surprised and I loved how she created a whole new world within our own world.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Darkness before Dawn by J.A. London (Darkness before Dawn #1)

Darkness Before Dawn by J.A. London (Darkness Before Dawn #1)

Only sunlight can save us.

We built the wall to keep them out, to keep us safe. But it also makes us prisoners, trapped in what’s left of our ravaged city, fearing nightfall.

After the death of my parents, it’s up to me–as the newest delegate for humanity–to bargain with our vampire overlord. I thought I was ready. I thought I knew everything there was to know about the monsters. Then again, nothing could have prepared me for Lord Valentine . . . or his son. Maybe not all vampires are killers. Maybe it’s safe to let one in.

Only one thing is certain: Even the wall is not enough. A war is coming and we cannot hide forever. From Goodreads.

I loved this take on vampires; it was completely different and amazing. I loved most of the characters, I wasn’t too fond of Michael (Dawn’s boyfriend), he was sweet but when he didn’t get his way or the reassurance that he needed, he was an ass.

Poor Dawn though, she lost everything because of vampires, her brother, her mom and dad. I felt bad for her and I loved how she eventually grew as a character and stood up the vampire ruler of their area, Lord Valentine. Because he was just crazy, luckily he had a saner son Victor.

I loved how Victor and Dawn’s relationship grew; it went from savior, to enemy, to friend, to love interest. I don’t think it was possible for someone to go through all those positions in person’s life, especially within such a short amount of time. But then again, she is a teenager and a female so it is our prerogative to change our minds whenever we want.

This was the first book in the trilogy and I can’t wait to find out what happens next between Victor and Dawn now. I don’t want to give away too many spoilers about their relationship, but I am sure it is about to be a lot more difficult now.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.
